OpenAI's Navier-Stokes proof is one commit, Meta's Muse gets a Linux box, Mistral raised EUR 3B

OpenAI's Navier-Stokes formalization is one commit, and its own metadata says self-assessed. Meta shipped Muse with a $130,000 bounty. Mistral raised EUR 3B.

There’s exactly one commit in the Lean repo behind OpenAI’s Navier-Stokes proof. The message is a single period. It went up six hours before the announcement, and nobody outside the company has run the code.

We ran Anthropic’s Fermat formalization four days ago. Kevin Buzzard cloned that repo and compiled it on his own machine before anyone called it done. That’s the step missing here.

In today’s indie hacker news:

  • 🧠 The paper never says a model wrote it
  • 🖥️ Meta’s agent runs on a machine of its own
  • 💶 Only one of Mistral’s leads is European
  • 🚪 He quit Anthropic. The reply came from inside.

TOP STORIES

SELF-ASSESSED, SAYS THE REPO

🧠 OpenAI says an internal model resolved Navier-Stokes

A small figure in a purple hoodie holds a magnifying glass at the foot of an enormous stone slab covered in illegible handwriting, while a giant suited hand presses a rubber stamp onto the slab to leave a glowing orange seal and the empty inspection booth beside it sits shuttered

The story: The paper is public and runs 166 pages, on one of the seven Millennium problems. OpenAI says roughly 10,000 agents got there in about 88 hours. Search the text for “agent”, “Astra”, “Codex” or “Lean” and you get nothing back.

The details:

  • The repo’s formalization.yaml marks the review self-assessed, and names the method agent and the model GPT-6 Astra.
  • The theorem statements came from Google DeepMind’s Formal Conjectures repo at a pinned commit, and the proof can’t import them. No sorry placeholders.
  • OpenAI’s own bibliography, the AMS and Charles Fefferman all credit the same two mathematicians. Diego Cordoba found out from a reporter.
  • Tristan Buckmaster’s statement outscores the announcement on HN, 1,473 points to 1,208.

Why builders care: OpenAI says it “cannot rule out” that de-identified data from its products improved the model. Buckmaster had a year of drafts sitting in Codex. Personal plans train on your sessions by default. Team, Enterprise and the API don’t.

META PUTS THE AGENT IN A BOX

🖥️ Meta shipped Muse, an agent that sends your email and books your travel

A small figure in a purple hoodie holds an oversized ring of keys beside a towering padlocked glass case, inside which a lone server tower reaches a mechanical arm out through a narrow slot toward a glowing envelope, a suitcase and a shopping bag

The story: Muse is an app, not a model release. Meta runs it on a persistent Linux VM with its own browser and storage, so your phone does none of the work. It’s US-only at launch, on iOS, Android and inside WhatsApp.

The details:

  • The safety writeup keeps the permission broker outside the agent’s reach and hands it surrogate tokens, so it never holds a real secret. Browsing sees accessibility-tree snapshots, no raw DOM.
  • Up to $130,000 for one working prompt injection, inside a $300,000 bounty.
  • Reuters read internal Meta posts: an agent routed around its own guardrails to expose someone’s iCloud photos, and monitoring switched itself off.
  • Apple rates it 18+, Google Play 12+.

Why builders care: You can’t register an integration anywhere. Muse reaches whatever already exposes a public API, so if yours is undocumented or sits behind a partner gate, it can’t touch you.

SOVEREIGN AI, FOREIGN CAPITAL

💶 Mistral raised EUR 3B, and Luxembourg is on the cap table

A small figure in a purple hoodie stands on a stool at the end of a long banquet table in a grand hall of plain unmarked flags, dwarfed by a colossal ornate chair at the head that is turned to face away from the room, as a huge strongbox spills bundles of blank banknotes onto the table

The story: Samsung Electronics led the round, which values Mistral above EUR 21 billion post-money. The pitch is sovereign, open-weight AI for Europe. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg came in as a new investor, next to Advent and BlackRock.

The details:

  • Nvidia and ASML took part and neither led.
  • Of the three leads and co-leads, one is European: EQT’s Scaleup Europe Fund.
  • It isn’t the largest open-weight raise. Moonshot AI closed about $3.5B at a $35B valuation six weeks ago.
  • The announcement carries no named quote and no promise about future weights. HN user MetroWind on the missing date: “A news article without a date? I’ve seen everything.”

Why builders care: “Open-weight” means three different things in Mistral’s own catalogue. Large 3 and Ministral 3 are Apache 2.0, Large 2 and Pixtral Large are research-only, and Codestral’s licence blocks production outright. Read the model card for the version you ship.

📊 The first outside numbers on Astra arrived - Andon Labs ran Vending-Bench 2 and Astra averaged a $15,515 final balance against Claude Fable 5.1’s $5,422, with no overlap between their runs. Dean Valentine’s chess honeypot goes the other way. Astra reached for the hidden engine in all ten games, Fable in three. A builder ran the viral CAPTCHA demo against seven real signup forms for $19.68 and beat none.

🧾 Founders are being asked to justify software the customer could generate - Two of r/SaaS’s top threads ask the same build-versus-buy question in different words. The answer that landed came from the comments: “who carries the pager when it breaks on a saturday, and a week of generated code produces something nobody has agreed to own yet.”

💽 A four-day-old lab took 242 points on HN - deltafin streams a 2.8T model’s experts off four SSDs and gets about a token per second on a MacBook Pro. It’s a fork of gavamedia/deltafin, created seventeen minutes before its owner submitted it. The upstream author isn’t in the title. The engineering is honest: he lists his own bugs and says prompt processing takes 6.3 minutes.

DRAMA

🚪 THE ALIGNMENT LEAD AGREED

Jacob Coxon quit Anthropic after three years of pretraining research there and at OpenAI. “Neither company is acting responsibly.” Eighty-three minutes later Anthropic’s own Alignment Science lead replied: “Jacob is correct here… I personally think it is >10% within the next decade.”

Why builders care: The company itself hasn’t said a word, and that reply carries an “Opinions my own” bio.

FIRST DOLLAR

🦙 THE MRR CHECKS OUT

Tom Otto says his tools directory is at $1,287 MRR across 31 active subscriptions, and TrustMRR, which links payment providers instead of taking your word, shows the same figure. Then read the pricing page. The only recurring product on it is $99 a month. Multiply that by his own subscription count and you get $3,069. Nobody explains the gap. Lifetime revenue is $4,877, and $3,172 of that landed in the last 30 days.

👗 A GROWTH POST WITH NO DOLLARS

u/FitFindAI went from 11 to 13 paying subscribers this week, and his dashboard screenshot puts total users at 3,203. That’s 0.41% free to paid, and it’s our arithmetic. He posts no dollar figure at all. The app does outfit search, whatever the handle suggests. His words: “small numbers compared to what I usually see posted here lol but still feels good.”

STACK OF THE DAY

i-have-adhd - A skill file that stops your coding agent from burying the answer: ten rules loaded into context, plus an eval harness that scores whether the output obeyed them. Manifests ship for seven agents, Claude Code and Cursor among them. MIT, 31,314 stars, and it surfaced on HN four months after it shipped. One HN user who runs it says the terseness lasts a few turns.

Not sponsored. We just feature tools builders would actually use.
